Charting a New Repertory for Guitar

The iconoclastic guitarist John Williams has tackled the repertory problem from more angles than most. Having made recordings since 1958 he had covered most of the standard works by the 1980s. He had also done plenty of commissioning and transcribing and he almost single-handedly revived the quirkily sublime music of the forgotten Paraguayan guitarist-composer Agustín Barrios. He stretched further by playing chamber music; recording a jazz disc with Cleo Laine; forming Sky a rock band; and playing on film soundtracks.

At some point in his life Haggard made a decision to become an artist – to make music on his own terms to hell with the restrictive conventions of the country music world – and freed to follow his own muse has produced a series of deep rich mature recordings in his later years. His 2000 album for punk-rock label Anti- Records “If I Could nly Fly” is the kind of profound work only an older man could make. He returned to the music of his boyhood – with Frizell’s guitar player along for the ride – on “Roots” the next year. In 2004 he briefly renewed his lifelong association with Capitol Records to cut “Unforgettable” a fine set of pop standards done honky-tonk style that he’d learned working bars at the beginning of his career. “You played hillbilly you played ‘Stardust’ ” he says. “You played it for them or you didn’t have the f- job. He cut a bluegrass album gospel albums and recorded with George Jones Willie Nelson and Ray Price.

Guitar Hero World Tour Coming to PC and Mac

Activision has announced plans to bring the series’ latest Guitar Hero World Tour to both the PC and Mac platforms. Similar to its console iteration the computer version of World Tour will offer "state-of-the-art wireless controllers to computer gamers for thefirst time new online and offline gameplay modes and a Music Studiofeature for composing and editing original rock and roll anthems. "Despite characterizing the game as "the most complete music game to-date" and promising gamers the 86 tracks that ship on the World Tour disc the official press release makes no mention of any future downloadable content planned for the game.
