In Guitar Rising still under development by GameTank the player strums an actual electric guitar (not included) that’s connected to either a Mac or PC via a USB adapter a microphone or the sound card. The player is cued by the game’s visuals following rock chord sequences and streaming notes to play actual melodies and rhythms. Players can participate at five levels of difficulty and they can slow down the beats per minute in order to learn at their own pace. The Web site says that beginner levels are designed for non-guitar players while harder levels will challenge even experienced guitarists.

” When Franco was growing up in New York an aunt taught him to play piano by ear at age 4 writing numbers in pencil on the keys. He sang Elvis songs by kindergarten and sang for a wedding at age 7 — what he calls his first paid gig. At 9 he started steel guitar lessons at the urging of his parents who loved music. In his early teens after his family moved to California Franco played background electric guitar in a polka band and sang in a choir and at a retirement village. During college he minored in music and earned a liberal arts degree then took electronics classes which guided him to his current career. Even so “When I’m at work I’m thinking about music” Franco said. For the past six years he helped Beaverton High School students record original songs in his garage studio.
