–>The opportunity for exposure underlies the SXSWfestival reports Andrew Murfett from Austin Texas. IT’S hard to imagine a city as engulfed by live music as Austinwas during South By Southwest. From Tuesday to Sunday the city’svast array of bars clubs halls offices — and virtually anyother space with a power outlet available to plug in an amplifier— was occupied by live music. Most downtown streets were blocked off to cars and clogged withmusic fans and musicians. By 2am the excited energy of tens ofthousands of people bottlenecking the streets rendered the citywith a feeling that’s akin to anarchy. For a first-time visitorit’s overwhelming… He ambled up on stage with Moby and played Walk n The WildSide. Moby himself was a pervasive force at the event. He DJed atnumerous parties launched a new electronic pop album and played ablazing rock gig at the Gibson Guitar party. The Australian BBQ an annual fixture here was held in searingconditions as Austin reached record temperatures for March. PaulKelly was outstanding. Kelly’s self-deprecating humour was wellreceived by the Americans. The Vines played a blinder too as didWest Australian pop-rockers the Chevelles.

KISS: Kiss : Music Reviews : Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone – Mar 18, 2008
The music is all hard-edged–they call it “thunderock”–and throughout their electrical storm solid craftsmanship prevails. Paul Stanley’s rhythm guitar is the star of the proceedings barking out the coarse chord patterns that comprise the foundation of the band’s material. Gene Simmons can thus provide an extra dimension to the band’s music by playing fluid bass patterns (especially on “Cold Gin”) and Peter Criss contributes impressive drumming marked by Keith Moon’s power and proficiency. “Nothing to Lose” “Firehouse” and “Cold Gin”–a Side ne trilogy that would make Alice Cooper proud–provides over ten minutes of steady stompin’ rock & roll with an allenveloping forcefulness. The manic “Deuce” makes fine music for crushing skulls and “Strutter” prominently displays the lead guitar talents of Ace Frehley an unmistakable graduate of the Buck Dharma school of frenetic fretting.

Guileless dervish emerges from the subway (real-life) guitar in hand
Village Voice – Mar 18, 2008
A rare breed of genreless six-string (rather than five-button) Guitar Hero: young female Southern and slight of stature. Her facility has been freshly flaunted and recently rewarded by no less than a Golden Globe nomination for her soundtrack work on Sean Penn’s Into the Wild; more tangibly she received a “sweaty shirtless hug” from Dave Grohl after their duet on the recent Foo Fighters track “Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners. Yes King’s talent manifests itself both aurally and visually… “r they would write me a note. And I don’t think that would happen now. And for me being able to just play music and be in the world. having a shared experience during that time was really very important. I felt like people really appreciated having someone just playing music—like a generosity of listening.
