Their sound is as rhythmic and powerful as the beats made by computers in electronica-techno clubs but all with live instruments. Lotus is an entirely organic experience nothing but heart soul and fresh live grooves. Lotus is interesting in particular because they have blended traditional rock guitar music and new-age electronica in a way that comes out sounding like neither one. This up-and-coming band truly has an amazingly special gift. They have created a significantly large fan base in an underground music scene that stretches around the globe. But the songs just aren’t there. ne has to conclude that Jack White also of The White Stripes and songwriting partner Brendan Benson haven’t delivered on the promise of their classic single “Steady As She Goes. ” This second record is earthier ? the guitar strings sound suitably rusty ? with mandolin fiddle and mariachi horns amid the Marc Bolan-meets-Mick Jones riffs. But only the lilting piano and EL harmonies of “You Don’t Understand Me” come close to sticking. ? Stephen Humphries Get Monitor stories by e-mail:.
