Metal proves to be a mainstay niche for guitar makers

But there's something gruesome growing in one corner of town: Halo Custom Guitars Inc. Fueled by a resurgence in heavy metal music and its numerous dark sub-genres Halo makes and sells evil looking instruments with bodies carved to resemble rotting flesh distended eyeballs and bone. The demonically themed guitars primarily find their way into the hands of death metal musicians. Regular heavy metal music can cover the usual topics of scorn and despair while the death metal sub-genre leans heavily on growled vocals and themes such as Satanism and dark mythology. Both are an important niche for electric guitar manufacturers like 5-year-old Halo. It sold 200 guitars its first year in business and now sells 200 to 300 a month in direct sales and another 200 per month to dealers said co-founder Waylon Ford… The demonically themed guitars primarily find their way into the hands of death metal musicians. Some of the music is distinctively Spanish while others bear a Catalan and Portuguese influence. Few of the composers on this album are well-known names in the Northern-European culture but in the Latin culture these are names that are known and the music even more so. From the earliest century of guitar music composers such as Gaspar Sanz and Alonso Mudarra show the origins of this kind of work which includes dissonances that occasionally sound like modern composition. There are pieces with lively spirit and power inspiring dance in a more popular mode. From the nineteenth to early twentieth centuries many composers were productive: Isaac Albeniz Julio Sagreras Manuel de Falla Enrique Granados Francisco Tarrega Heitor Villa-Lobos and Joaquin Turina. Some like de Falla were very influenced by traditional Spanish stories and musical themes whereas others like Granados drew inspiration from the broader aspects of European musical tradition.

With Mercer as the Shins’ primary songwriter the group developed a more focused crafted sound than Flake Music’s charming if somewhat rambling collaboratory style. Crandall as well as Scared of Chaka’s Dave Hernandez and Ron Skrasek filled out the Shins’ lineup; however Hernandez and Skrasek left after a short while due to the success of their main project. By 1999 Flake Music essentially disbanded and Langford also joined the Shins. With a couple of 7″s on mnibus — 1998’s Nature Bears a Vacuum and 2000’s When I Goose-Step — under their belts the Shins embarked on a tour with. Sub Pop’s Jonathan Poneman caught the San Francisco date of the tour and asked the Shins to contribute a single to the label’s Single of the Month Club which eventually became an offer to release their 2001 single New Slang and their debut album h Inverted World. The group spent the rest of the year touring with acts such as Preston School of Industry and Red House Painters.

addEntry({} {button:true} );There’s several square miles of land in between Kennett Square Pennsylvania (the “Mushroom Capital of the World”) and Wilmington Delaware. In that area where folk music is apparently alive and well you can find three streets: ld Kennett Road Cold Springs Drive and Concord Pike. And within those street names lies the moniker of one of the most irresistible bands ever to call themselves “shock acoustic”: ld Springs Pike. If that name sounds a bit down-home a bit warm and fuzzy don’t be fooled. While undeniably folk ld Springs Pike is also a lot more… Even Gallagher early on had his doubts. “I wrestled for a long time with the idea that you couldn’t do acoustic music and make it have a rock and roll spirit and put on a real rock and roll show. So I wanted to conform I wanted to play loud electric guitar. ” In time though he came around. “nce I started playing with ld Springs Pike I understood that most of the time there’s nothing more rock and roll than acoustic guitar” he said. They don’t have a manager; they don’t have a record deal; with nearly 20 original songs an album will eventually happen but they don’t know when; and as long as Gallagher is tethered to a Broadway show they can’t do a proper tour. But this musical foursome is something to behold.
